From the programmes of the traditional, world-famous Mostra at the Lido
The Venice International Film Festival (Mostra internazionale d'arte cinematografica di Venezia) was founded in 1932, making it the oldest film festival in the world. As part of the Biennale of Contemporary Art, the film festival takes place annually on the Lido in Venice. The main prize is the "Golden Lion", awarded since 1949, which goes to the director of the film in question. Alongside the Cannes Film Festival and the Berlin Film Festival ("Berlinale"), the Mostra is not only the oldest, but also the most important international film festival.
